The city was established in 1905 and became official in 1911. The city lies within an arid desert climate. Casinos are the major attraction in Las Vegas and the most famous area for casinos is known as the Las Vegas Strip. The city contains the headquarters for the world's two largest Fortune 500 gaming companies: Harrah's Entertainment and MGM Mirage. Despite its desert location, Las Vegas is one of the fastest growing cities in the US.
